Steven’s Story

Site created on October 21, 2018

Steve went in for a routine checkup several weeks ago. It was discovered he has a low hemoglobin. After a colonoscopy and an endoscopy they found a tumor. He was then referred to Mayo for surgery which he had on October 10th. He was doing fine until Tuesday the 16th.  After complications from surgery, he was sent back for emergency surgery on Thursday where they found a bleed.  He is currently ventilated in  the ICU at Methodist Hospital in Rochester.  Since Thursday, he had remained in an induced coma however since Saturday, they have not been able to bring him out of the coma. My Mother is at his bedside keeping vigil that he will pull out of this.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Crystal Rice

I apologize for not updating more.  Steve continued to make progress, slowly but surely.  Claire and I went down to Rochester on Tuesday of this week and brought him home after 4 weeks in the hospital.  He is recovering at our place.  He is very weak but we can see improvement each day.  He did come home with two drain tubes, as well as an iliostomy.  I have even managed to help him with them.   But Thank goodness we have an RN in the house! Hoping to get the 2 drain tubes out this next Tuesday when he goes back to Rochester for appointments.
