Message from my mom about my Dad’s June 29th appointment:
“Hello! Good appointments this morning! We met with Dr. Price, who is the surgeon, and Steven will have surgery on Monday, August 28th with the plan to remove the left side of his thyroid. This is the side where the 1 cm lesion is located. Papillary thyroid cancer is the most common type and is slow growing. They will plan on taking just the affected left side unless something else shows up during the surgery. His blood tests concerning the thyroid are all in the normal range and it does not look like the vocal cords are presently being affected by the cancer. If they only remove the one side, he will most likely not need thyroid medication. If all looks like the scan presented, he will not need any further treatment besides the removal. We will meet with an endocrinologist in July who will help us manage after the surgery and keep an eye on things moving forward. We checked the scans that Steven had prior to this and it looks like this cancer spot was first noticed in the December 2022 scan. It was still there in the March scan and that is when Dr. Kwon ordered the thyroid ultrsound which took place in May. So all looks good!!”
