Steven’s Story

Site created on January 23, 2019

We decided to start a caring bridge site to to keep everyone up to date on dad. Dad was diagnosed with lung cancer back in October 2017 and went through radiation, chemo and immunotherapy. The lung cancer on the scans showed it was gone and only left with scar tissue. Monday, January 21st dad started to show signs and symptoms of a stroke. We took him to the ER at ST. A’s where they did a CT and MRI of the brain.

The scans showed he had 3 spots on the brain which have metastasized from the lung cancer. The largest one, which measured 5mm x 5mm, was starting to collect fluid around it, and was pressing on the spinal cord and brain causing problems with speech and memory. We met with a neurosurgeon and they decided the best option was to go in and try to remove part of the largest tumor to help reduce the swelling and the pressure on the brain.

Surgery went as planned and they were able to remove (they think) most of the tumor. He will be spending a couple nights in the ICU, then will be moved to a regular room for a day, and then should be discharged home. The plan will be to start radiation on the 2 other tumors. The oncologist and neurosurgeon said that they should be able to control the cancer; however, it is not curable.

Dad is a fighter and we will all get through this. We would like to express our sincere gratitude for all the support, love, prayers we have received during dad’s battle. Keep them coming.
