Steve’s Story

Site created on November 2, 2023

For those of you who know me well, I always want/try to keep each and every friend updated when our family is facing a health crisis. So, we decided the most efficient way is to post information on this site because we want you to know and more importantly, we covet your prayers for Steve and our family as we face this difficult health journey.

Over the last few weeks, Steve experienced pain and pressure in his chest when he walked even short distances, along with having very high blood pressure. Last March he had the full work up from an intensive heart stress test and recently has had CT scan of his heart, along with adding new medications for his blood pressure. But, none of those tests showed or indicated any blockages of his magnitude!

On Friday, October 27th Steve had a heart cath with Dr. Forrest Flemming in Montgomery. The results were not what we had hoped for… and he will be having quadruple bypass surgery sometime next week at Saint Joseph Emory Hospital Atlanta. We meet with Dr. Jeffrey Miller on Monday, November 6th for a consultation and at that meeting he will let us know when we will schedule the surgery. (Hopefully next week!)

Steve has survived a stroke, a craniotomy, car accidents, and more…so, we are trusting the Lord to show him extravagant grace, His tender mercies, and favor through this surgery and full recovery. Thank you in advance for covering Steve and our family in your prayers!

James 5:16 “Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is very powerful in its effect.” (CSB)

Journal entry by Marjorie Ann Davis

Dad had his final post-op appointment this morning with Dr. Jeffrey Miller, who was his cardiac surgeon at Saint Joseph Emory Hospital in Atlanta.

Dr. Miller was extremely impressed with dad’s speedy recovery, and we were thankful he allowed him to go for this post-op visit (two weeks early) so he and mom could return to their home in Montgomery!

Surgery was November 14th, he was discharged on November 20th, and has been at my sister’s house throughout his recovery. Thankfully our entire family (including six grands) has been able to frequently visit with him; and we have celebrated the goodness of the Lord as His favor has been lavished upon him! We are SO GRATEFUL he has, once again, beat the odds!!! We are truly blessed by our miracle man! ✨

Dad stayed in the CVICU the entire time in the hospital, but was discharged directly from the ICU, which rarely happens! Mom will continue to check his vital signs each morning in order to monitor his blood pressure, oxygen levels, glucose numbers, and make sure that he performs the respiratory and chair exercises. The surgeon changed some of his medications and added an antibiotic since the top of his incision looks inflamed, and he doesn’t want it to get infected.

Dad won’t go back to see the surgeon at Emory again but will have a follow up appointment with Dr. Flemming, who is his cardiologist in Montgomery.

Mom and dad are able to go on their morning walks again each day, but dad must take it slow and easy and just pay attention to his stamina and endurance level. He cannot lift more than five pounds for several months and will not be able to drive for another month...

Please know how grateful we are for the text messages, cards and calls; but most importantly your faithful prayers for my dad and our family!!!

*We realize there are many of you experiencing health problems and issues, and we would like to pray for you if you want to share the need with us! We will be glad to pray!*
