Steve’s Story

Site created on February 3, 2019

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We would love to hear words of hope and encouragement from all our friends and family members. It doesn’t take much....just a simple “Hi Steve, I’m thinking of you” will make a world of difference! : )

Please ignore the donate section. NO need to donate.

We really appreciate your support during this difficult time.

How it started.....Steve was diagnosed with Stage 4 Lymphoma in March 2017. It was in his Spleen, Liver, and left lung. He was successfully treated and was in remission for 16 months.

Unfortunately, in December of 2018 he started having familiar symptoms and it was confirmed that his Lymphoma has returned. In January of 2019 we came back to M. D. Anderson to meet with Steve’s physician and start the war against Lymphoma once again.

We will add updates along the way to keep everyone posted. We love you all and hope to hear from you.

Much love,
Steve and Esther

Newest Update

Journal entry by Esther Miller

I am happy to let you know that after 7 days in ICU, Steve was moved Sunday night to the 15th floor. It is his home away from home. Steve did try to escape from ICU several times. Last night he had one of his favorite nurses and that was reassuring. Today he will receive another blood and platelets transfusion. His liver and kidneys are improving everyday. Steve remains on high flow oxygen, hopefully in a few days he will go back on nasal canalaus. His spirit is much better and he is feeling less anxious. Dr. Fowler did tell us that he heard from the blood bank and there were some unusual antibodies in the unit of blood that Steve received Saturday a week ago. They do suspect that he had an allergic reaction to it. That’s what sent him to ICU in the first place.

We are now looking forward to recovery and getting his strength back so he can receive his new immunotherapy and be reunited with his t-cells. Steve will need to get stronger so he can get 2 or 3 more rounds of conditioning chemo before car-t begins. He loves your cards, texts, emails and phone calls.
