Steve’s Story

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

Stephen Kitsoulis received his diagnosis of cancer on February 14th, 2019.

It started in January with a cough that wouldn’t go away. After treating him with an antibiotic, his doctor sent him for a chest x-ray. When the X-ray showed something suspicious, he was sent for a CT scan (2 days after Dad’s funeral) which showed spots on his lung, liver and spleen. On Wednesday, February 6th, a biopsy was performed on the spot on his liver. Steve and Chris met with an oncologist at Sibley Hospital on February 14th where they were told that Steve had lung cancer that had also spread to his liver and spleen. Over the course of the next week or so, more tests and scans were ordered and performed to determine where else the cancer may have spread. It has been discovered that there are tumors on both his retinas. On February 20th, because the tumor was beginning to affect vision in his right eye, Steve began receiving radiation treatment on both retinas. A meeting with the oncologist is scheduled for February 27th to review all of the test results and the type (or types) of cancer(s) that have been found. They will discuss and determine the course of treatment to pursue.

Sadly, I am writing to tell you that Steve passed away yesterday morning. He was at home surrounded by his immediate family. We feel so blessed to have had him with us for 5 years since his initial lung cancer diagnosis. Thank you all so much for your love and support. I know he gathered strength from your many well wishes, words of encouragement, and prayers. You may find arrangements at this link:
