Journal entry by Kelly Gezo

 Hello everyone,

To all of my dad's friends and loved ones that have heard by now or maybe not.....  Steve suffered a ischemk stroke on sunday 7/12 and was admitted to St. Lukes early that morning and was then transferred to (CVU) Icu later on in the afternoon.  Both of his carotid arteries are 100% blocked with severe damage to the right side of his brain and damage to the left side of his body.  That day being the worse scenario ever my dad still knew who I was, he held my hand and from time to time he would bring it up to his lips to kiss.  Majority of the day he slept but when he awoke he asked questions about me, my boyfriend Tommy and many more about tcurrent situations and even when   I brought up past memories he asked questions and was spot on with everything!  As the evening went on tho the question was how much oxygen is he receiving to his brain?  The outlook was grim.....Visiting hours ended and I kissed my dad goodnight I was scared it would be my last....

Monday:

Due to covid only 1 visitor per day is permitted, my dads girlfriend and I decided we would switch every other day.  Today dad passed the swallow test, GO GEZO!  Poor guy was starving and imagining he was eating at Moes or maybe some of the hot ribs at the rib off...You remember those eh Scotty!?  LOL!

Tuesday:

Well if we do not try something he is not going to get any better and remain in the same spot he is in so i agreed to let them perform a cerebral angiogram to see what is going on up there.  The dr. and nurses said he did amazing!  The arteries had been clogged for so long his body formed other air passages and gateways to provide oxygen to the brain.  GO GEZO!  Again, another day I asked questions and he was correct with every one of them I asked and even while we were waiting i played him his favorite gal Patsy Cline and he knew how and when she passed.  He winked at me and said kid Im not going anywhere, I know dad.....

Wednesday:

Steve was taken to the rehabilitation center at UTMC..The first couple of days he had a rough time.  Like all of us when you have to go, YOU HAVE TO GO!!!!  With his mind and brain working faster than his body he tried and fell ending up with a few bumps and scrapes but doing just fine.  The week prior to the stroke he was smoked in the cheek by a golf ball and then fell and cracked a rib a few days later and then the stroke and the falls.  I told him he looks like he might of just got outta the ring with Mike Tyson but i think you won!  He responded it sure feels like it.

I am sorry it took a minute to reach out to all of you sooner but it was a very trying week and a hard situation to grasp and I finally was able to get his laptop to log on to his page.  Thank you everyone for all the positivity and nice messages that were sent and I showed him today!  Dad has a long road to recovery but was using his left hand like a champ today.  I brought Keno tickets and I put his laptop in front of him and he knew exactly what to do and before i could tell him he said what is the starting draw number? !! LOL!  we won $22.   So again,  THANK YOU for the positivity and please keep it coming cuz I truly believe it is working!  I will keep everyone updated and if anyone would like to call me with any questions or just talk my number is 567-868-1915.
