Steve’s Story

Site created on February 12, 2021

Steve was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's follicular lymphoma in 2014. After six years of being asymptomatic, the lymphoma flared up in September of 2020, and he began chemotherapy in October. This has been a hard road, with four draining rounds of chemo. As of February 2021, the lymphoma appears to have shifted from the slow-growing lymphoma of the original diagnosis to an aggressive form of cancer. While the lymph nodes in his neck and chest responded to the original treatment and are under control, the largest mass in his abdomen has not responded and instead morphed into diffuse large B-cell lymphoma. This mass has put pressure on other organs and caused complications.

As Steve enters this new phase of the disease, we will be using this site to provide major updates and keep everyone informed. As we try to manage the volume of questions and expressions of support, we'd ask that everyone communicate primarily through this site. We ask, above all, for your prayers during this time.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Sherrie Brown

Since it has been nearly six weeks since we posted information on Steve's Celebration of Life, we are sending a reminder and update. It will be held this Saturday from 2-4 pm at Liberty Christian Fellowship, 1815 W. Liberty Drive, Liberty, Missouri 64068. The first portion will be remembrances of Steve which will be followed by a time of worship. Feel free to dress comfortably. You do not need to dress up or wear dark clothing.

If you are unable to attend, but would like to watch, this is the Zoom webinar link.

You will not be able to interact with those in the service but can chat with each other and the moderator if you are having technical difficulties. We are also planning to stream the service on Facebook Live.

A few changes since the post below:
I have enough people prepared to share that there will likely not be an open time to share, but if you have a memory, please continue to send those in writing to the following link:

Secondly, Clay County has eased its social distancing requirements so seating is not restricted. We will have an area with social distance seating for those who prefer to be more cautious. Everyone will still need to be masked indoors.

I am so blessed by the outpouring of kindnesses and help and amazed at the distances from which people are coming to honor Steve.

For our family, we thank you!
