Journal entry by Alayna Todd-Cheney

Hello everyone! I hope everyone is well! Remember, a few posts back when I said Grandpa was going to work on a letter to you all? Well he worked very hard and has gotten the letter written and is very excited to have me post it! I will attach pictures of the letter, but for easier reading I will  also type it verbatim below!

A letter from Steve Cheney...

To all my wonderful friends,
Because of you - I am here today - and I am so humbled from all of your support and prayers. It took a few miracles to get through, and I am so grateful to you.
I made it home for Christmas and it was wonderful! The doctors are very pleased with the progress. The last 2 Sundays, I pushed my walker all over the Ridgedale shopping center - and I get to start cardiac rehab on the treadmills soon. I have to wear a set of 3 batteries around my chest for the rest of my life - to keep the heart pump going. The next time I go through an airport, I will have to convince them, I am not a suicide bomber. I am going to work hard so I don't screw up my second chance at life.
My Granddaughter Alayna was so helpful and supportive - especially with all of her work posting on caring bridge. What a great job she did. She sounds more like a doctor than the real ones.
And I want to thank my family - going down to Abbott Hospital everyday from the initial dark days praying for me to live. My daughter, a Carmelite Nun was able to come home after 23 years in the convent and she was so helpful guiding everyone in prayers.
My wife, Pam, of almost 50 years was so great - almost like having a private nurse, changing bandages and keeping me on track. She was there everyday and helped pulled me through. My 4 sons were also just great - helping whenever they could but praying so hard and pushing the doctor to decide to give me the heart pump.
Never in my life, have I felt so much love for my family - and what a big help to get through the early recovery.
I especially want to thank all of you for your prayers and support. When I heard about all the prayers, I can honestly say that I could feel the love - and it lifted my spirits and my fight to get through the early days. I am totally convinced that your love, prayers and support have saved my life, and it took more than one miracle to save me. I am forever grateful to all of you.
It was also a big lift, reading your comments on caring bridge. It brought tears to my eyes, what an incredible feeling.
I am so lucky to be alive, and have friends like you - How can I ever thank you?
My being here, completely proves the power of prayer, and that prayers can bring miracles.

Hopefully we can see each other down the road. I'll eventually get around to seeing you!

Love to all of you!

- Steve

P.s. I plan to be at Winter market, Thursday February 20th at the Cheney Carpet warehouse. It will be great to see many of you! I cant wait!

P.s.  My two favorite jokes from the hospital.
1. When the doctor told me he was putting in a DE-FIB-ulator in my shoulder, I grabbed his hand and said- stop everything - I sell carpet for a living, you are taking away my livelihood!

2. When I was told about the 13,000 hits on the caring bridge website - I said, holy cow, we should have had an ad for gravity on there!
