Journal

It has been a while since I've posted an update.  I know COVID has impacted all of our lives and the last few months have been a trial for Steve and our family.  We have not been allowed in the facility to visit him since mid-March and it has taken its toll.  Unfortunately, Steve has become much less responsive, we believe because of the lack of interaction and stimulation, and we can only assume that emotionally it has affected him as well.  We just didn't see an end in sight in terms of being able to get back in to see him, so a couple of weeks ago we started putting a plan in place to bring him home.  In the meantime, there has been a surge of cases of COVID in his facility so we are grateful to have already been going down this path.

So yesterday we brought him home!  We prepared as best as we could, but you know how that goes.  We quickly realized we have a learning curve with this whole "caregiving thing."  We have in-home health aides and nursing to help with his care, so we are not going it alone.  Our kids and their spouses/significant others continue to be absolutely amazing.  They are with us every step of the way and made Steve's homecoming possible.

Speaking of significant others, Cori and Matt got engaged last month!  We adore Matt and couldn't be happier for them.  It's been nice to have this happy occasion in our lives.

As I have said before, I literally count my blessings each and every day.  They far outnumber our difficulties and our faith remains our strength.  Although Steve is home, he is still very vulnerable and we are not having visitors yet, but we look forward to the day when it is safe for him to see his friends and family again!  For now, he will have to settle for our familiar faces.

Thank you all for your continued prayers and support.
