On March 22, 2018, Steven Dale Bishop, Sr., age 69, of Midlothian (#303)  went home to heaven and into his heavenly Father’s arms. He is preceded in death by his father, Dale Ellsworth Bishop and his brother, David Allen BishopHe is survived by his wife of 50 years, Ruth Rivett Bishop; sons, Steven Dale Bishop, Jr.  (Alexis) and Kevin Brett Bishop (Arnica); 4 grandchildren, Owen Dale Bishop, Lily Halsey Bishop, Callum Cedar Bishop and Aven Lillian Bishop; his mother, Katherine Bishop Bullard; his aunt, Skippy Campbell; sister-in-law, Audrey Bishop and nephew, Christopher BishopSteve was born in Glendale, CA. He and his wife, Ruth met in Jr. High School but didn’t date until after graduating High School.They were married in 1966. Steve graduated from California State University at Northridge with a degree in Criminal Law and became a Postal Inspector (detective) for the Postal Service for 35 years. Afterwards he worked as a credit card fraud investigator for Citi Bank for 15 years and was currently working as an Insurance Fraud Investigator for The State Corporation Commission, The Bureau of Insurance in Richmond. He had many stories to tell from all his years in law enforcement and once you got him started telling stories it was hard to stop him. He loved all his careers.He was a wonderful husband and father and it will be hard to be without him. His sense of humor will be sorely missed by his wife, his 2 sons, family and friends. Steve never met anyone who wasn’t his friend. He loved people, talking to people and he loved helping people. Helping was his gift. He and Ruth did lay counseling and helped many people through difficult times. His loving and caring ways made him someone that people felt safe opening up to. He leaves a wonderful legacy. Visitation will be Friday, March 30 from 6-8 pm at Blileys Funeral Home, 6900 Hull Street Rd., Richmond. A Celebration of his Life will be Saturday, March 31 at 11:00 am at Chippenham Chapel, Blileys Funeral Home 6900 Hull Street Rd. Burial will be privateIn lieu of flowers, and in honor of Steve’s gift of helping people, memorial donations may be made to The Salvation Army, virginiasalvationarmy.org/richmondva/, Billy Graham’s Samaritans Purse, https://www.samaritanspurse.org/ or a local food bank of your choice.
