Stephanie’s Story

Site created on December 14, 2022

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We have created this page so that we can share Stephanie's journey with those who love her/us. As you may or may not know, Stephanie was diagnosed with Stage IIA Invasive Ductal Carcinoma on November 28, 2022.  This diagnosis was quite a shock since she's so young and we have minimal family history. We are truly overwhelmed with the love and support we've received from friends, family, and colleagues. Thank you for visiting and traveling on this journey with us.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Steph Williams

I am wayyyy overdue to update everyone! Life has just gotten busy as treatment has come to an end. Just wanted to let everyone know incase you didn’t already know that I finally finished my 14 rounds of Kadcyla on March 1st! 🥳 I didn’t think that day would ever come. I also finally had my port removed this past Monday along with the second (and hopefully final) stage of my reconstruction! Still very sore and in the frustrating can’t do much phase but relieved to have all the big things behind me. It has truly felt like I would never get to this point.

The plan now is just to observe closely and I’ll continue taking my endocrine therapy for 5-10 years along with my ovarian suppression (an injection every 3 months). Lots of emotions as active treatment comes to an end - excitement, fear, anxiety, and sort of lost as to how to transition back to “normal” life. Trying hard not to define normal since nothing will ever be normal again but thrilled to hopefully have this phase of my life behind me.

I have unfortunately had several people I know be diagnosed with breast cancer recently and I was chatting with one of them earlier today. I was telling her all my tips and about my experience and it really hit me what a whirlwind this last year and half has been. Right around this time last year I was finishing what I’ve come to refer to as the bad chemo (TCHP) which feels like it was many years ago, not just a year. In these last 16 months I’ve been through 2 major surgeries, 20 rounds of chemo, 25 rounds of radiation, and medically induced menopause and it has been a complete blur. My surgeon told me when I was diagnosed that this is a marathon, not a sprint and he could not have been more right.

Thank you again for all your love, support, thoughts and prayers. I can never express how much it means to me. Please continue to pray that this is all behind me for good and never comes back! 🩷🩷
