Sign In to Show Your SupportMom has been home for a week. Coming home was overwhelming as the neighborhood and her home seemed unfamiliar. Now that she has been home for a while, things have come back to her. She says things look familiar but different. Generally things looks smaller, duller, and just a little off. We took her to an eye appointment and she recognized stores and the general area. That was very reassuring for us all. Her vision has gotten worse as a result of the stroke, so she got a new eye prescription and glasses. The eye doc said it is possible for the vision to return to what it was, but we will have to wait and see. She will be having more vision testing in early August to test her peripheral vision and some other issues.
Thanks to so many of you, mom has been eating like a queen. Her appetite has improved and she is loving the delicious meals. Thank you very much for helping our mom put some meat on her bones and get stronger!
This week has been rough in terms of pain control and sleep. The stroke has caused left side arm and shoulder pain. She can not use her left arm and it is now in a sling. The pain is intense and really amps up at night leading to sleepless nights. Holly has been a trooper and has done an amazing job trying to keep mom calm and comfortable. They went to the doctor yesterday and got some answers and a bunch of prescriptions to help with pain control and sleep. We had been told it was a pinched nerve, possibly related to her neck issues, but her general practitioner said it is related to the stroke. We will go see the neurologist on Tuesday and have some more tests done. The arm issue has been a huge bummer and she has been putting on a very brave face. Holly reported that mom slept well last night, thanks to the new prescriptions, and had a good morning nap. Holly has been a great gift this week. Lindsay and I were able to head home to relax and spend time with our families. I will head back to relieve Holly on Saturday as its time for her to rest. Once the arm pain is under control, we know we will see massive improvements in every area. She has already made great progress in her cognitive skills, life skills, and physical abilities. When her arm is feeling better she will be ready to go on walks and golf cart rides!
Thank you all for your continued support! We are in awe of all the love and generosity shown towards our mother.
