Stephanie’s Story

Site created on September 16, 2021

Thank you for visiting our Caring Bridge site, created and maintained by David Arnold, Shannon Maris, and Wendy Blackburn to keep friends and family updated on Steff's health journey. On the morning of Tuesday, Sept. 14, Steff suffered a hemorrhagic stroke. She was transported to Baptist Hospital Neuro-ICU in Little Rock where her road to recovery began.

We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement and promise to keep you updated here! Thank you for visiting.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Wendy Blackburn

Hello, family and friends. Wendy here. We hope you all had a great Thanksgiving holiday! Darren and I were fortunate to be able to come to Little Rock for Thanksgiving and spend some time with Mom and David, so I thought I would check in and provide an update.

Mom’s doing great! She successfully finished her four weeks of physical therapy, and they said she “passed the class” and didn’t need any more physical rehab. David takes her to “the club” (their gym) about three times a week to exercise, where she does some cardio, weights, and enjoys her stretching class. She is also still doing her eye tracking exercises at home with David’s help. She has begun short walks with Buster again! She’s been in a perky mood, and her strength, stamina, and cognitive functions continue to improve. The main thing we need to work on is her vision which is still giving her trouble to the point it’s difficult for her to read (her favorite pastime) and she is still unable to drive.

She has a gaggle of doctors’ appointments coming up Dec. 10-15, including her annual dermatologist appt., her neurologist that treated her when she was in the hospital, her physiatrist from rehab, and her retinologist. She’s also scheduled for an MRI to check her progress. We hope for some answers and a plan to improve her vision, including possibly a referral to a neurological ophthalmologist.

With time and hopefully some direction from the doctors, we hope to see more improvement and get her back to reading her books and toodling around town on her own! All in all, we continue to feel so lucky with the outcome even just a few months later. We know we have much to be thankful for this holiday season.

Love and happy holidays to you all!
Wendy
