Journal entry by Stefani Cerday

I had my final PET scan and the technical response was Complete Response!! So basically, Complete Remission! I do have a 3 cm residual nodal mass showing up in the scan with no PET uptake** so I will have another PET scan in a few months to keep an eye on it but it appears non Cancerous and after a few consults it was determined that surgery and/or radiation therapy is not needed for it so whoohoo!  I am still pretty tired and it still takes me a couple days to bounce back from working out or not getting enough rest but hopefully I'll be back to feeling like myself before too long. Thank you to everyone sending love my way during this crazy time. It been emotional for me, to say the least, and having a caring and supportive group around me has meant very much to me. I'm pretty exhausted emotionally at the moment bc I just finished meeting with the Radiation Oncologist this morning and its very weird to think this could all be over for the foreseeable future after cancer has taken up all of my energy for over half a year.  I'm not letting myself get too excited about this bc it could all start up again in two months and the nature of Follicular Lymphoma is that it always relapses. But I am cautiously optimistic that we got it was well as we could have this time around and I am hoping for a long and happy remission. I'm going to a nap with Vaughn and spell check this later but I wanted everyone to know the good news. Love you guys.

**PET was first included in response criteria alongside CT in 2007 as a way of confirming remission in patients with residual nodal masses [2829]. This led to the abolition of the response category ‘complete response unconfirmed’ (CRu) because PET is able to better differentiate patients with a ‘complete response’ (CR) from patients with a ‘partial response’ (PR). A residual mass of any size that was considered to be PET-negative was classified as CR, whilst a residual mass that was considered to be PET-positive was classified as PR or stable disease depending on the size on CT.
