Journal

We have been home several weeks now, and we wanted to do a quick check in to let everyone know how things are going.  Below are words directly from Stanton.

By the grace of God, I can confirm I’m alive and recovering in the wild. He took me to some dark places, but brought me back. It’s impossible to ignore the power of your prayers and support this year. Six months in a hospital left me with the humility of life’s fragility and the physical challenges I now face. I’ve seen and heard of much worse outcomes than mine from sepsis. I’m thankful for what I have. Friends, family and faith helped me through this ordeal. I can’t wait to watch Ruthie grow up and hope to see everyone again one day soon. Thank you always for the care you gave Lizzy while I was gone. We won’t forget your generosity.

Ok, it's me again.  Stanton is doing better than I ever expected, but there is still a long way to go to get back to normal.  He is walking around a lot without a walker or cane, but if he needs to go a long distance, he brings the walker.  He is able to drive, which is awesome!  I’ve gone to a few of his doctors appointments, and his chart has blown their minds.  Like seriously, the internal medicine doctor said he would need to study his chart over the weekend and see him again.  It has been a challenge transitioning from in-patient to out-patient life, especially with all of the medicines that have been prescribed at various facilities.  I think we are getting close to being organized and fully transitioned though.  He is still dealing with neuropathy in his feet, pain and soreness from PT, and the pressure wound that is not fully healing.  Generally, I think it is going to take a long time to get his energy back and come out of the fog of being so sick for so long.

Ruthie is so happy to have Daddy back home, and she often remarks about how strong he is getting.  She enjoys cuddling and listening to music/dancing in his office with him.  She is in pre K this year, and we really enjoy hearing about all of the new things she is learning.  She is so creative and curious, just like Stanton.  Although, she could be a little better at coloring inside the lines.

Please pray for Stanton to have continued healing and more energy.  We celebrated our 15th anniversary on 9/6, and I can’t imagine a better gift than to have him with me to celebrate.  Please also continue to pray for my mom as she has been in and out of the hospital with complications from years of chemo.  Thanks for everyone’s support and prayers.  We are so grateful and happy to be reunited at home.  Life is starting to feel more normal again.  Praise the Lord!

Love,

Lizzy and Stanton
