Journal entry by LeeAnne Wagler

Here is an excerpt from mom before the surgery:

When we met with the prosthetics specialist yesterday, he highly recommended Stan would have a "bone bridge" performed. There are two bones in the calf of our legs. In a "bone bridge" procedure, they remove a piece of bone from the smaller bone and place it across the bottom of both bones and have them bond together making a stable platform for the prosthetics. The operation and recovery take longer but in the end, his prosthetics should be much more satisfactory. Right now he is in a cast so he won't bump those bones while they heal. Praying for a good recovery...

Dad made it through surgery no problem on Friday, April 20.  Thank-you to the many that have been praying for him and us.  Dad came home yesterday afternoon and was able to hang out with his children and grandchildren in the evening.  Dad said his pain level is a night and day difference since surgery.  Today he is ripping around on the golf cart enjoying the spring sunshine.  He can't wait to be completely mobile again.  He needs to let his leg heal for 2 months and then he can start learning how to operate a prosthetic.
