Journal entry by Alexandra Raiden Ritter —
This round has been kicking Stacy's butt! She's been incredibly weak since her infusion on Tuesday. She hasn't been able to eat or drink very much. She fainted twice this morning, so I rushed her to the ER. She made use of one of the emesis bags we had prudently stashed in the glove box before we were even halfway there. When we arrived at the ER, her BP was 74/51 and her temp was 99F. She fainted again just as they were about to get her into a bed. They ended up having to lift her into the bed. Her BP came up a bit after lying flat for a while.
They had a bugger of a time getting blood from her, but they eventually got enough after trying her chemo port and both arms. They ran quite a bit of testing. Her dad has been hospitalized with COVID so they tested for that too since I'd been helping him out for a few weeks prior. That was negative. She was very dehydrated. They found an infection too, so they gave her a bag of antibiotics along with two bags of saline and a push of nausea meds. By the time those were run through, she felt well enough to walk the halls with the nurses and not faint again. They gave her antibiotics to take at home and sent us on our way.
Now we just need to get her feeling well enough to take care of herself while I'm at the hospital all day and night (later this week) to remove my thyroid and stay for observation. One of my two adult children will be there to drive me home, but she either needs to be able to stay home alone safely, or come stay overnight at the hospital with me. I really wish the timing was better.
Thank you all for your thoughts, prayers, and help! We appreciate the support so much!
