Sister Trish’s Story

Site created on June 7, 2021

On Sunday May 30, 2021 I was not feeling well. My back and hips were causing me pain, my acid reflux was acting up and I just felt awful, so I made a trip to the ER at Hudson Hospital. The doctors gave me something for pain and for the reflux, ran some blood tests and the results came back telling them that I have CML a form of leukemia. I was in complete disbelief! The next week was a flurry of emotions, phone calls , text messages, a bone marrow biopsy and of course a visit to an oncologist.

The oncologist confirmed the diagnosis, but also said that we caught this early. I started oral chemotherapy medications today  for two weeks by which time the long term medication will start. With God's help I will beat this.

Journal entry by Patricia Erickson

I saw my oncologist this week and got great news. As usual my blood is still clear of leukemia. Now my bone marrow is way better. He said that this chemo could be my ticket to full remission, that I had achieved a major molecular response. He believes that I should have full remission in 3-6 months. Praise God! Your thoughts and prayers are working! Love, Trish
