So...not sure how to start this....so here it goes....So as most of my family knows now, my dad's health has been declining since a few days after our last nasty snow storm in April. The following Monday or Tuesday after the snow storm, my dad apparently tripped/slipped when he was coming inside. He yelled for my mom and she found him sitting on the steps going up into the kitchen. My mom was able to get my dad into the TV room eventually and basically has been on the couch in the TV room for about one month. I didn't know about this until a week after since my dad did not want me to know. When I did find out, I plead with my dad to get checked out which he refused. He was alert and oriented at the time. In the coming weeks, his health has been declining. This has been a huge drain on my mom since she has basically been at his beck and call, which has been a toll on her. Which lead up to today, my mom found my dad on the floor when she got up this morning. She called me at work and told her she had to call 911 and she finally did.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Amaya Kunkel

Well today marks one year since my dad made it back home after his month and a half of being in the hospital and TCU. The docs said he had about 6 months to live without any treatment for his lung cancer and he proved them wrong! He has adjusted to living on his own since mom has died. I know it was hard for him to go home that early morning knowing she wasn’t coming home. Even though I have had a great child/parent relationship with both my parents, I have grown even closer to my dad these past 8 months. I could have easily lost both my parents late last year. I hope I have many more years with my dad...❤️
