THE MEETING
The "Family Care Conference" went better than I expected it to go. The advocate didn't end up twisting arms nearly as much as she and I had anticipated she would need to. I was heard, my questions were (mostly) answered, and we have a tentative plan in place for Spencer to discharge Monday morning (after his first dressing change). This is excellent news!! The information we are waiting on, that could change the discharge plan, is whether or not Home Health will agree to come every weekday to help with Spencer's morning dressing change. The process involves removing the gauze taped over the incision in his leg, cleaning the area around the incision, applying adhesive barrier (the skin around the incision is breaking down from all the tape removal), removing the packing inside his leg, repacking the incision, then reapplying gauze and tape to hold it in place. It has taken a minimum of 3 people (2 holding his legs, 1 doing the dressing change itself) to complete this task. At one point, there were 5 people helping hold and distract him while a 6th person worked on his leg.
This is how far I got a couple days ago...I don't have it in me to keep writing at the moment. Our family dog had to be put down yesterday; and I just can't right now. Love to you all...thank you for your continued prayers.
