Journal entry by Kari Paidin

Hi everyone. I wanted to give a quick update on Spencer. Abbi, his sister stayed with him for a week 24/7 and then after that we all took turns coming over when he had appointments in the home. He is now receiving care outside of the home, which is great. He's going to PT, OT and speech. Spencer can still not drive and is slowly recovering physically, but is living independently. We're taking turns bringing him to his appointments .

While Spencer was in the hospital Mayo reached out to him via mail and asked if he would be interested in being a part of a research study. Long story short, most of his care has been moved to Mayo. Spencer had 2 antibodies that were causing the autoimmune encephalitis. One was a common type and the other was rare. Mayo apparently discovered the rare one. The don't get a lot of people with the rare anti-body so they were very eager to take him on as a patient. Abbi has been driving him down to his appointments. I think they have gone 5 times now?

In addition to all the above, the hope is that he'll be able to go to work in 3 months. We'll be keeping our fingers crossed!
