Journal entry by Sara Atwater

Merry Christmas to all of Team Popsicle Followers! We had a great Christmas, even if it looked very different from any other Christmas that we have had - even our Christmas tree had to be moved to a new location. Hopefully, our mom approved from heaven.

The past couple of months have shown steady progress for Popsicle. He can sit on the bed without assistance for 30 minutes!   This is huge because he could barely do 30 seconds on his own a few months ago.  He’s been sitting in his power chair for longer and longer periods. He still hasn’t embraced the beauty of Netflix binging, which I think that I would embrace if I were him.  He has become a news junkie though. I think it must make him feel connected with the outside world.

I included a picture from Christmas dinner. Before you pass judgement on the potential super spreader event, it was just a brief mask-less moment. Kristine and I were seated as a separate table as the active healthcare workers. Michael had to stay in Winston-Salem to see patients. Fortunately, we’ve all had our first dose of the vaccine. I’ll feel much better after my second dose in a couple of weeks. Well, probably a couple of weeks after that. As a side note, we’ve all tolerated it without any issues.

We are hoping for steady and continued progress in 2021. We are ready, like most people, to put this crazy year behind us.  We all appreciate everyone’s support this year and hope that 2021 brings good things for all of us!
