Sofia’s Story

Site created on December 2, 2022

Hi family and friends, While we wish we didn’t have to be meeting in this way, we are thankful for technology to connect us all during this time. On November 30, 2022, Sofia was diagnosed with Leukemia. Her specific leukemia is called B-Cell ALL…the most common kind. The Doctor’s are very hopeful that after completing treatment, she will be able to live a normal and full life. It will be a two year journey that will have ups and downs…but Sofia is a fighter and such a strong girl and together with your support, we will get through this.

A lot has happened over the last couple of months since the last posting here. We praise God that most of the time has been filled with more smiles than tears.  Sofia is incredibly resilient and has kept her sense of humor throughout this process. We love that she continues to be her silly and sassy self!! As strong as Sofia has been, there is only so much a body can take. Yesterday, she developed a fever and had to be hospitalized. Her blood and platelet counts have plummeted and though she has had transfusions the past two weeks, the effects of this latest intense chemo phase have made it difficult for her to bring them back to a normal level. Sofia received a blood transfusion yesterday and is scheduled to receive platelets today. She has been tested for all kinds of viruses and infections that may have developed and has already started with antibiotics. We’re not sure how long she will be in the hospital, but her body definitely needs some focused time of rest and recovery. As for Gio, he has been an AMAZING brother and support for her.   He is so sensitive to her and truly cares deeply for her situation. He drew that picture above on his own yesterday to cheer her on and show how much he loves her!!! 😭😭😭
Thank you for your continued prayers! God is faithful and we continue to trust Him with Sofia.
