On Friday, February 22, 2019 Skyler Reagan McCardle passed away at Duke Medical Center.

Skyler will best be remembered by her infectious smile and sense of humor.  She had the ability to light up any room with her joyful presence and kind heart.  Skyler deeply valued her close relationships with her parents, Melissa and Brent, her older sister, Cassidy and her close friends.  As a family, they spent countless hours together, especially enjoying family vacations.  Skyler and Cassidy were known for their special "sister dates" and for just genuinely enjoying each other's company.

Friends have described her as loyal, bubbly, funny and appreciated her unique brand of honesty of telling them if what they were wearing looked ok!  She was always recognized for her kind and generous heart.  She loved being able to participate in service projects and activities at both school and church.  She lived her life as an example of service, helpfulness and usefulness in everything she dedicated herself to.

Skyler attended GRACE Christian School as an eighth grader.  She was a cheerleader and volleyball player for the school. As a member of the GRACE vocal ensemble, she was known for her beautiful voice in the choir.  One teacher has described her as "always doing exactly what she was supposed to be doing and a very mature student."  Skyler was diligent and excelled academically. She was a leader and an example to her fellow classmates.

Skyler has generously given the gift of sight to two individuals through corneal donation paying forward her worldly kindness and generosity to other families.  She continues to make us proud and honored to have been part of her meaningful and exceptional life.

A Celebration of Life to honor Skyler will be held at GRACE Christian School on Friday March 1, 2019 at 7:00 pm (doors opening at 6:30).  The family asks that the services for Skyler be attended by friends and family only. In keeping true to Skyler's personality, please feel free to wear your favorite over-sized sweatshirt and leggings or athletic pants.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Skyler's name to Duke Children’s to help families and patients in the pediatric cardiac intensive care unit. Please make checks payable to Duke University, note Skyler McCardle in the memo line, and mail to Duke Children’s Development, 710 W. Main Street Suite 200, Durham, NC 27701 or give online at www.tiny.cc/PCICU.  Please designate Skyler McCardle’s name on your online donation.

Online condolences may be made at www.wakefuneral.com.
