Hello All! As you all know, Skylar was admitted on Monday for the start of cycle 2. Not only was it a rough day cause our family was spilt up again, Skylar spiked a fever and her pain in her legs and hips was so intense that she was screaming and crying when you just tried to stand her up. We thought it was from the bone marrow biopsy that she had on Wednesday. The doctor ordered X-rays, ultra sounds of her hips, and a MRI to see if there was as infection from the bone marrow biopsy or if a bone was broken in the process of the biopsy (which was possible as the surgeon said that Skylar has really hard bones for her age and she had to work to get a good sample). The good news is they didn’t see an infection or a broken bones. The unfortunate news, the could see the leukemia at the site of the biopsy...which also means that the leukemia probably grew a bit from the biopsy on Wednesday. It was tough to hear as it brought back memories of the reason why we took Skylar to the emergency room the first place- she was in pain when she was trying to walk and she was running a fever. The doctors said that as she gets chemo she should start to feel better and of course get her energy back...and today that happened. She started walking for the first time since last week with some assistance. She is wanting to play instead of lying around and sleeping all day. It seems like we are headed in the right track.
Also, the doctors changed up her chemo plan and she is getting even more intense chemo then before but it is only for 6 days cause this type you can only have so much in your lifetime. But then afterwards it is the same...just staying in the hospital waiting for all of your counts to recover since they are wiped out. We are hoping the new drugs will fully wipe out the leukemia this time...we are praying for this miracle.
They also informed us that they have a cord blood on hold for us with a 90% match. They still are looking for options for an adult donor...they haven’t found a match yet. Of course I (Amber) am still being considered too. We should find out more info closer to the end of this cycle. Which they also said as long as Skylar is doing good, we can get a break and go home between the end of this cycle and the transplant phase...so we are very excited about that.

Thanks again for all of your support! We truly appreciate you!
