Silas, Janet, & Lupe’s Story

Site created on December 6, 2023

Janet was admitted to NorthShore Evanston Hospital on 11/25/2023, pregnant 22 weeks and 5 days.  With God’s blessing, Janet was able to remain pregnant until 12/4/2023 when Silas Emmanuel was born.  He was born at exactly 24 weeks gestation.  Silas was transferred from NorthShore Evanston Hospital to Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge on 12/12/23 for surgery and he will remain there for the foreseeable future, right now the goal date for discharge will be his original due date 3/25/2024.  Janet and Lupe are asking for your prayers for them as they navigate having the birth and medical care of their rainbow baby in Park Ridge while living in Gurnee.  Janet and Lupe are hopeful about Silas’ future and God’s plans for them all during this difficult but celebratory season of life.

If you’d like to help in any way we ask to please pray for the family. You can also see the Ways to Help section if you’d like to help in a tangible way.

Journal entry by Janet Sanchez

We spent the day at the hospital.  Silas seemed well, if they hadn’t told me something was wrong, I wouldn’t have thought anything was wrong.  His vitals have been good.  They actually went  down on oxygen requirements from 4 liter to 3.5, and he tolerated that well so far.  This first Xray showed a lot of gas, more than normal but not in areas where it shouldn't be, so that's a plus.  They started suction from his gut and stopped his feeds, back on TPN (IV nutrition).  Another xray in the afternoon showed some improvement but still similar.  They are doing blood and urine cultures to check for infection but they are not starting antibiotics since they are hopeful it isn't something major based on how he is presenting.  Time will tell.  Thank you for your prayers.
