I have not hated my name more since being diagnosed with cancer. EVERY TIME I come in for an appointment I get greeted with “Sherry”. I politely correct the person and the response is usually a repeat of “Sherry”.
When this happens please know I immediately judge you. If I think you did not hear me, I will get your attention, smile and say “ Sorry it’s not Sherry it’s
Cherie. Cherie.”
But if I feel dismissed then I turn down the “lightness” in voice remove the smile and just say my name. “Cherie” That when I get the stunned and sometimes embarrassed look. To which I responded with a smile and the “ light voice, “ I guess you did hear me the first time”. But I know they did.
Now strap on for my roller coaster ride of 2020
