The day after Shiloh was born a heart murmur was detected, prompting an ultrasound of her heart. The ultrasound confirmed an ASD (hole between her upper two chambers that should resolve themselves), a VSD (hole between her bottom two chambers), a bicuspid valve (to be monitored over time), and a coarctation (narrowing and pinch) of her aorta.
The coarctation required immediate attention and our girl was transferred to CHOP that day. They started her on a medication to keep a valve open that closes soon after birth. This “bypass valve” is what is currently keeping her stable.
The days ahead will involve surgery to repair her aorta and approximately a week of recovery at the hospital. We’re so thankful to be staying at Brooke & Patrick’s in Philly for the duration of her stay. There is hope that we’ll take Shiloh home to live a normal, healthy life.
This wasn’t how we wanted to spend our first week as a family of 4 but we’re so thankful for her life and we know God will not waste any of the pain we’re experiencing. We’re blown away by the friends and family loving and supporting us in prayer. This means everything to us!
Jeremiah 29:10-14 This is what the Lord says: “You will be in Babylon for seventy years. But then I will come and do for you all the good things I have promised, and I will bring you home again. 11 For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. 12 In those days when you pray, I will listen. 13 If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me. 14 I will be found by you,” says the Lord.
