Sheryl’s Story

Site created on August 11, 2018

Together, We Fight:  This is going to be my fight of a lifetime.

On  Tuesday July 31st,  I went to the doctor, I wasn't feeling well.  I was diagnosed as having bronchitis and the doctor put me on an antibiotic.  Being a diabetic, whenever I get put on an antibiotic, my blood sugars have a tendency to get out of sorts.  I still wasn't feeling well over the weekend and on Monday my blood sugars were very high, I was extremely tired and apparently taking on a yellow hue to my skin color.  As the week wore on,  I was being encouraged to go back to the doctor as new symptoms appeared  - apparently yellow (jaundice) just isn't my color!   After all these tests and a short little vacation to Gunderson Lutheran Hospital in LaCrosse and the placement of two stents, it has been discovered that I have pancreatic head  cancer.   My focus will be on staying strong enough to endure the journey ahead of me.  I am blessed with many loving and caring family members that will create a support network that I will need on this big journey.   My family will be updating this  site to let everyone know what is going on.  Please understand if you text, call or make a request to visit if I don't respond it is because I am not able to.  Please feel free to reach out to family members in those moments.

Journal entry by Lori Burke

On Sunday, the doctor came in and gave the news that there isn’t much more that can be done for mom.  Mom will move from the hospital into hospice care, into The Serenity House in Tomah, at 9:30 am tomorrow morning.
