Sherry’s Story

Many of you may know my mom and know what a strong strong woman she is. In 2011, she was diagnosed with inflammatory breast cancer and was given 6 months to live. But, being the strong, courageous woman she is, she beat the odds given to her!
This week, she was told her cancer might be back in the form of a 6cm
mass on her brain. She was rushed into surgery to have it removed, but she has a long road ahead of her with more surgeries to come. I know my mom is capable of pushing through this difficult hardship and has the strength to keep fighting this fight.  The financial burden is not one I want her to bear. I don’t know what her prognosis is, but I do know that her bills will be more than she can handle. I am now asking for your help. Please help my mom pay for the care that she needs to survive this horrible disease. Please share this with others who can help her. I am grateful for anything you see in your heart to give.

Journal entry by Sofia Higgs-laughlin

Good morning everyone. This week though devastating, has been beautiful. I know I’ve been gone for a while but I was exhausted and needed to get my thoughts in order after getting the news about my mother. I have been taking care of my mother full time with the help of hospice twice a week, an hour a visit. The day we took mom home, I was holding her up as I walked her to the restroom, as I was told that was okay by the nurses. Half way there she passed out in my arms. It was terrifying, but slowly my mom has been gaining strength. She is able to eat again and drink which is incredible, and her mind is 95%, it’s been amazing to spend quality time with her and talk to her almost if the major brain surgery never even happened. We both know our time is limited together, but have made a silent pact to stay positive and live a happy normal life until she passes. I am going to try my hardest to keep my moms life peaceful and joyful. And I will stay by her side the Whole time. My mother and I are extremely grateful for all of the love, donations, and the waves of support. You all are incredible. I will try to be more active with my updates, as I feel more together and rested. Also on a side note- I will be working a booth at the Folsom farmers market on the 9th of July 9:00 am- 1:00 pm. I will be facepainting and selling my crafts to pay for my mothers living, medical, and eventually- funeral expenses. I want to leave this off on a positive note, today I washed my mothers hair for the first time since the surgery because we got the Okay from the nurses. And now she is doing a face mask- today is going smoothly and I’m very proud of her
