Sherlyn had open heart surgery on May 7th, 2021. During the surgery the doctors replaced her aortic valve with a mechanical one, replaced her mitral valve with a mechanical one, and completed a bypass on one of her smaller arteries. When they put in the mitral valve they had to cut the electrical connection between the two heart chambers due to the severe radiation damage from her previous cancer treatments. Since cutting the electrical connection means when the top of the heart beats, it can't tell the bottom part to do it as well, the doctors also placed a pacemaker. Her heart had been so use to working hard due to the radiation, it meant it was going to take Sherlyn some time for things to adjust and recover.  Sherlyn was discharged from the Mayo on May 15th. Through the coming months, she faced many obstacles in her recovery. Due to shortness of breath, fluid retention, and numerous other medical reason, Sherlyn has been in and out of the emergency rooms and ICUs since her surgery, with the latest issues sending her back down to the Mayo after Christmas.
