Sheri’s Story

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

Mom's journey begin in 2016 when she was diagnosed with multifocal invasive ductal carcinoma (i.e. breast cancer). Cancer was also detected in sentinel node at that time. She underwent chemotherapy, radiation, and a lumpectomy like a trooper while experiencing almost every side effect on the list! Years went on with regular mammograms and check ups.  Along the way she had developed a strange skin/blood disorder where she had too much iron in her blood and needed regular phlebotomy and had to limit time in the sun.  Fast forward to 2023.
After returning from the Sunshine State (Florida) in May of 2023, she feel ill with a cough that quickly progressed to shortness of breath, nausea and unexplained weight loss. After 3 long months of seeing specialists, having procedures, labs, imaging, and finally a biopsy, mom's worst fear came true.  Finally in August, she was informed that her breast cancer had widely metastasized to her lungs, bones, and her brain...to name the worst.
She has completed 3 weeks of radiation to the brain, and is now trying treatment which consists of injections, IV infusions, and an pill (like chemo) to try to reduce cancer symptoms and buy more precious time. Like all meds, there are side effects which mom is trying to manage. She is weak and fatigued; her only outing is going to Vince Lombardi clinic. She is on 02 with any activity.
A patient of mine mentioned something to me last week that really stuck "sometimes we have to focus on living; not surviving." This is so deep but makes so much sense to me; especially in this situation.
Jay has been such a good  husband and caretaker as he loves mom unconditionally. At this time, they would be heading down to the Sunshine state to their "2nd" home and we would be booking our next visit down. I would give anything for them to have just 1 more time there together in their beautiful home.

Please pray for mom & Jay.
