Sheree’s Story

Site created on September 7, 2022

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

August 26th, Sheree was being seen at the U of M for a recurring issue. Upon doing blood work doctors noticed something else was going on. After a week of many tests, scans, and biopsies; they discovered she has Acute Myeloid Leukemia.

Sheree has been on oral chemotherapy medications for a few days and is starting IV chemotherapy tonight, September 7th. She will remain in the hospital for an estimated 4-6 weeks during treatment. This will be beneficial to control any side effects that she experiences and will be monitored closely.

She only gets two visitors a day in the hospital. She is able to go outside to visit with people. Please check with her before showing up to ensure she is feeling up to visitors and hasn’t already met her limit for the day. She will be very susceptible to illness because of the chemotherapy. Because of this we ask that if you are ill or around someone who is, please don’t visit. ALL VISITORS MUST BE MASKED whether visiting inside or outside. We need to keep her as healthy as possible.

Thank you for your understanding, support, love, and encouragement during this time.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Mary Koppel

It's been 70 days without an update on Sheree and her remarkable self. Thanks for understanding that the time has flown, as she's gathered strength and stamina on her recovery from a tough response to the transplant.

The update? Sheree's doing great! She's driving herself to her appointments. Cooking for herself, and enjoying time with her kids and grandbabies. There are porch and patio visits with friends and her laugh is right back where it always was. Deep in her throat and coming from her heart.

Since I last wrote, Sheree's kids - Zach and Amanda - have launched a publishing company. Little Almond Publishing has released its first two books featuring Zach's stories and Amanda's artwork.  If you have littles in your life, these are great books to have around the house to entertain and engage their hearts and minds. The two titles are - Ellery Loves Ice Cream    and    Little Sheree Cherry and How Feelings Vary - and are available on Amazon now https://a.co/d/gbpPzEN

I understand there will be more books coming - as there's no lack of imagination and creativity there!

Also exciting for all The Cooneys, Sheree has decided that being close to (actually part of) family is a good and healthy thing for her. So sometime in the next year, when Zach, Amanda, Alma, and Mac decide where they're moving, they're making space for Sheree to join them - a whole new chapter for the family.

Only one note of sadness for this final update - Sheree's companion of 15. years, her dog Izzy, crossed over the Rainbow Bridge yesterday. Izzy was much loved by all who knew her - and she had been very ill the last few months. So although although Sheree will deeply miss Izzy's companionship, she's also grateful there is no more suffering.

After this - I believe our Caring Bridge updates are now over. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and support with Sheree and her family on this journey of pursuing health.
