Newest Update

Journal entry by Paul Cockrum

Happy Friday, friends and family!

Thank you for subscribing to Shelly‘s blog. Wanted to provide an update as it has been 2+ weeks. Overall, she is recuperating and doing well, cancer free. However, she still has significant nerve pain that feels like a bad sunburn as well as a runner’s cramp. Of course, neither of those are real, but that’s what it feels like inside of her brain due to the nerve damage of the 5 incisions she had during when one part of her left lung was taken out back on March 8. So, still uncomfortable and needing pain pills, at times.

Some good news is that she’s been able to go back to teaching (I call it “bossing“) this week. Her goal was to return last week, but that did not come to fruition; she was just too fatigued to jump back in the classroom. However, this week she has taught either a half-day or a full day, every day. While she’s often completely exhausted when she comes home, she is back at work, and the pain is slowly getting better. We’re expecting it to last ~ 3 months. That’s based on what her surgeon had provided for what to expect postoperatively.

We hope you are doing well and enjoying the spring and looking forward to a happy Easter!

Take care,
Paul
