Journal entry by Sheila Dartez

After my surgery, my doctor told me I will have to have chemo. Apparently the first surgeon just meant I wouldn't need chemo or radiaation before the surgery. I was very disappointed because I was under the impressions he meant I would not need it at all but at least I will have the lite chemo since I had a mastectomy.

Yesterday, I had emergency surgery because the expander on the breast that had cancer ruptured. Unfortunately, all "uneccessary" surgeries were indefinitely cancelled the night before to clear the hospitals for the critical need patients. I was very lucky to be one of only 7 people to be approved by the hospital board to have surgery to have the expander removed and permanent implants inserted. I am so thankful because otherwise I was going to have to live for several months in pain with the possibilty of internal and external infection. I was very nervous to have surgery with the corona virus but the hospital where I had surgery was a "safe" haven and corona virus patients are not admitted. This hospital is reserved for critical care. The surgery was outpatient and I am now home and will not need additional surgeries. I feel very fortunate.

Please pray for the nurses and doctors who are putting their lives in danger, working long hours or not working and not getting paid while they empty the hospital of eveyone except life threatening situations. Many nurses are now just on standby and not being paid. Then when they are needed they work overtime.
