Journal entry by Shaydar Edelmann —
Coming up on 6 weeks since surgery.
I did have a set back the first week, with some inflammation and blockage that put me back in hospital for a few more days.
Since then, progress has been good and on track. Very light and careful activity the first 4 weeks, and starting to add more the last couple. Light weight workouts (no core stress). Snowboarding and skiing (groomed trails only so far). This last week I was able to get in the pool swimming a bit and today went to Top Golf and hit some balls. I'll keep adding intensity as me and my scar feel stronger over the next few weeks. But all is looking on track for full activities soon, including surfing in New Zealand in May.
I've had Oncologist and Surgeon follow ups. Healing is looking good. Blood work is clear! I'll be on a 3 month cycle of blood tests and Oncologist visits. I'll have annual CT scans starting in June. And annual colonoscopies starting in either June or December. I know each of those visits will come with a solid dose of recurrence anxiety but my odds are good (about 75%) of non-recurrence in 3 years.
Thank you to everyone who has been here to support me thru this intense and incredibly difficult 10 months. I truly appreciate being able to share thoughts and process and it has made it much more tolerable. All going well, this is my last post here...
