Journal

I had a bilateral mastectomy with lymph node dissection on the right side on February 5 and went home on February 6.  All of my suture lines are healing; the glue that they use works quite well.  I am keeping up with the many appointments that I have each week, and having lots of time to rest and heal. Maybe I should say Bill and Maggie are keeping up with the appointments since I can't drive yet. (Love you guys!) Three of the lymph nodes had some atypical cells remaining after the chemo. Two of my three drains have been removed. I still have one drain in place and I am looking forward to getting it out soon. My right arm has developed some cording as a result of the removal of the nodes;  it is painful but should not be a long term problem.  The occupational therapist has given me some exercises that are making it feel better. The plan is  to start radiation in a few weeks when my arm improves and the last drain is removed. Radiation will take care of any microscopic cells that may have been left behind. I hear that radiation is a breeze compared to chemo and surgery! I am looking forward to returning to work the week of March 22. It is funny, I really like my work but never thought I would be this excited to get back to work.

Thank you for the many meals, beautiful flowers, thoughtful get well cards, prayers and supportive posts. I have felt your love and prayers throughout this journey; it gets me through the rough times. I am lucky to have amazing support.

Love and blessings to all,

Sharon
