Shannon’s Story

Site created on July 30, 2012

Welcome to my CaringBridge site. I have created this site (with the help of John) to keep family and friends updated. We appreciate all your prayers, thoughts, and words of encouragement during this difficult time.

I feel my breast cancer came out of nowhere!  I have no family history and no other signs or symptoms were ever present.

Thank you for your love and support!

Shannon

On July 25, 2012 I was diagnosed with breast cancer, or invasive ductal carcinoma.

This all began earlier this summer with the discovery of a lump on my left breast.  After an appointment with my OBGYN she sent me in for a mammogram and ultrasound.  A needle biopsy was performed on the 24th with results coming in late on the 25th.  I met with my surgeon on the 26th and just today (30th) I had an MRI performed.  The MRI results were promising in regards to no other signs of cancer showing elsewhere.

Newest Update

Journal entry by Shannon Gohman

Hello Everyone:
Please accept my apologies for not updating my Caring Bridge site for such a long time. But thought I should write something today due to the date. It has been an entire year since this journey began. When I look back and think about it, I am actually a little happy I broke my hip in the shower. I never would have found cancer. Thank goodness for a wonderful surgeon that "got rid of" a majority of the cancer and gave me a partial hip replacement. Also, great big kudos to my oncologist whom I am still working with and at my last appointment gave me good news with the word REMISSION. It's been a very long year and could not have done it without all of you, my readers. Thank you so much for the constant love, support, and prayers.

As many of you know, I have decided to retire early from St. John Neumann. My actual last day will be February 22...Ash Wednesday! I will be going into the Lenten season very thankful for a job I loved and the wonderful support I received. It will be a time for personal growth and reflection of what will come. But as I write this, I feel stronger each day and I have so much to be thankful for.

Thanks again to all!
