Shanie’s Story

Site created on May 4, 2019

Shanie recently started experiencing severe headaches. She went to the doctor and had a CT scan done, which showed a large brain tumor.  Shanie was taken to Rapid City for further evaluation, and was diagnosed with butterfly glioblastoma.  Shanie is comfortable and her pain is being managed.  She is currently still in Rapid City, but the plan is to bring her home and make her comfortable there.

We ask that you please refrain from contacting the family, and allow them some privacy during this time.   We will keep everyone posted through CaringBridge, as  more information becomes available.

Where do I begin.....

In the last week or so Shanie has shown signs of decline. She went from stable to where we have known her condition to be, to last Saturday having major headaches, to where we are now. This is the last thing I want to be typing right now, but I also know how well known she is in the community and I want to let all of you aware of this news. In the last couple days Shanie has shown confusion, continuing to sleep, unaware of things, to eventually whispering.  She has shown a decline cognitively as she continues to be responsive, but shows changes daily. Her care has become too much for us to handle as a family physically and emotionally. We as a family have made the decision to send her to legacy for the care she deserves. We feel it’s what is best for her as she is our number one priority, and it will also be best for us. It has been extremely hard, and we will be able to only focus on just being with her and by her side. As for the restrictions right now at the legacy, two people at a time can go visit her, and of course wear a mask. Right now I am not sure if you have to set up a time to go see her or just able to go, If you want to visit. Chris and the kids will be there quite a bit as you know, so please respect that. Please keep all of us in your prayers. Shanie loves you all!

*She will be transferred tomorrow morning.
