Shamus’s Story

Site created on January 31, 2021

Our dear Shamus took his last breath on February 5, 2023 at around 11:10pm.

Abenie and Shamus’s friend Teddy were with him when he passed. Abenie shares:

"I crawled in beside Shamus, because I could see his body shutting down and didn't want to leave his side. I had my hand on his heart and could hear each breath coming in small gasps, with long periods between each. His heart became quieter and quieter, until his last breath and the last pulses of his heart.

I feel so incredibly grateful to him for including me in this sacred time of his life and I'm so very, very thankful that he was released so peacefully."

Shamus’s body will be buried at the Dumont Creek Cemetery (https://goo.gl/maps/fBMZpEfPyHExg17HA) in Winlaw, BC at 2pm on Wednesday, February 8th. (The cemetery is about 2km north of Winlaw - turn right off Hwy 6 onto Lancaster and then immediately right again onto Claybrick Rd and follow to the end.) All those who desire to be there are welcome to attend.

You will see in the Ways to Help section that there are active links to both a MealTrain site if you would like to provide a meal to the family and a GoFundMe campaign if you would like to donate to help support Abenie and the kids through this time.

If you have a question about how the family is doing or have something you would like to offer to the family, you can either post on the Facebook page linked in the Ways to Help section or email sandasupportteam@googlegroups.com.

We’d like to invite anyone with photos of Shamus that they would like to share to upload them to the shared photo album we created in his memory. Our hope is to gather them together for the family and to use them as part of his memorial service.

We'd especially love to receive photos of any altar spaces that you've held for Shamus during his journey, if you have them.
