Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

Sean's story began when he was 14 months old and diagnosed with kidney disease. After many remissions and relapses, at 8 years old his kidneys began to fail and he had a transplant. His transplanted kidney has served him well for nearly 27 years.

In July 2019, a tumor was discovered on his one and only kidney and was found to be cancer.  Surgery to remove his kidney took place on January 8, 2020. He started dialysis and expected to wait 2-5 years before he receiving another transplant. Because he did so well, his doctor began the process so that he could have a new kidney by the end of the year. It has been an exhausting roller coaster of victories and hurdles, with a worldwide pandemic to keep things interesting, but he is finally cleared for surgery! Sean's Mom, Cheryl, is a good match and has been approved as his kidney donor.

The transplant surgery will take place at Stanford Medical Center on Wednesday, October 14th.

This Caring Bridge journal will be updated regularly to keep our family and friends informed about his journey.

Journal entry by Amy Muro

Cheryl and Sean had an appointment in the clinic this morning. Both patients have really turned a corner and have starting to feel better. Sean has been experiencing a lot of fluid retention, which is causing a lot of discomfort. They are really monitoring Sean’s lab work and adjusting his medications accordingly. For him there will be a lot of adjustments until they get his treatment dialed in.
