Scott’s Story

Site created on March 20, 2019

Welcome to our CaringBridge website for my dad. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. Below are many updates throughout this journey. As many of you know, my dad was in a serious snowmobile accident up north this past weekend on Sunday night, March 17, 2019. After a few ambulance rides and being flighted in a special plane, he is in good hands at Marshfield Hospital. He is in the SICU, due to the serious trauma. He has a small brain bleed, DAI which is also called shearing in the brain, concussion, broken rib, a black and blue shoulder and bruising to his heart and left lung. He was put into a medically induced coma that they slowly brought him out of Monday evening. He has been on a breathing tube to help him continue breathing since his body is very worn out and he was not breathing well on his own. He has mostly been asleep since the accident but when he wakes up, he moves around and is a little agitated which the nurses said is normal because he is confused where he is since he is out of it. Monday he responded to some small things but mostly stayed asleep. Tuesday, we continued holding his hands and kissing his forehead and he started responding more to commands. Tuesday was the first day he opened his eyes since the accident, which put a smile to our faces. He looked at me and squeezed my hand tightly, which made so many happy tears stream down my face. I told him "Dad, everything is going to be okay." The nurse asked him to open his eyes and look at her as well as give two thumbs up and he followed through with that. They did another CT scan yesterday and there is no additional bleeding in his brain and his small brain bleed has not gotten worse so that was great news to hear. It has been so tough seeing my dad this way but each day he has been making small improvements. Sawyer (son), myself (savannah), Lynne (girlfriend), Larry and Nancy (parents), Pam (sister), Gary and Kristin (brother and sister-in-law) have all been up here at the hospital with him since Monday morning (3-18-19) so he has lots of love and support surrounding him. He is so strong, we know he can make it through this. We all appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. My family and I would like to thank everyone so much for reaching out to us, letting us know my dad is in your prayers and offering to help in anyway shape or form. The positive words and encouragement has helped so much during this very scary time. It means so much to all of us knowing how much my dad is loved. I can't wait to tell him how many people are praying for him and how loved he is. We are praying he continues to make positive milestones each day. We will continue posting updates. I just want to see my dad smile and tell me he's going to be okay :) We need you and love you so much dad.

Love,
Savan

Thank you so much to everyone that came out to Cedars yesterday for the Scottstrong event. There were many strikes made for Scott during 8 pin tap bowling! This event had an AMAZING turnout. We hope everyone had a good time. My dad and our family are so thankful for all of the support, love, prayers and donations. We thank everyone who has helped my dad and our family out the past 4 months, you all have made a huge impact! Thank you so so much to those who made this fundraiser possible and took the time to plan and set up this event. We couldn’t be more thankful for our friends, family and our community.
