Journal

Tomorrow will be two weeks since I came home and things are going pretty well.  The last biopsy on Feb 14th did show mild rejection but nothing to worry about.  They rate the rejection level and score them by assessing it a score of either 0R, 1R, 2R or 3R.  Zero and one R’s are acceptable, especially in the few months post transplant.  My rejection was labeled as 1R and no permanent damage is occurring to the heart and all the other numbers look good.

Walking has been going well and I went from a 40 minute mile to a 20 minute mile in 10 days.  On Sunday Jennifer and I walked 2 miles in 40 minutes and never felt out of breath (not sure about Jen 😂 ).  I have a few side effects from the 30 pills I take a day but nothing too serious.  The biggest hurdle is my hand tremors while trying to put together a 2000 piece puzzle with Jennifer.  They should level out soon and if not they have additional medicine to calm the tremors.  I guess I will wait to go shooting at the range until the tremors are under control. 😳

I did catch a cold on Monday night and have experienced what it will be like with a weakened immune system.  Not a lot of fun and there are not many OTC medications that I can use.  I had clinicals yesterday and they tested me for all the other viruses which were negative.  I just need to get through the next couple of days without catching pneumonia or other serious respiratory illnesses.  I have a pulmonary appointment tomorrow so they can check the status of my lungs while I'm there.  I guess that is one benefit of going to the hospital 2-3 times a week.

Pain has been greatly reduced in the last few days and I am hoping to start my 12 week cardio rehab in a few days.  Excited to get that going as I will be golfing once I graduate and the sternum is healed.

I mailed my letter to the donor family on Feb 13th and hopefully I will get a response.  It takes awhile to reach them as it will go through a couple of reviews by the transplant network before sending.

Family is doing good other than they all have had colds with the exception of Jacob in the last few days.  Hopefully I will be able to visit with folks soon but this week was a reminder of how easily I can get sick.

Scott
