Scott’s Story

Site created on May 1, 2023

Scott and Maggie were camping in the desert in Arizona in April 2023 and had to cut their trip short when Scott started to feel sick. By the time they made it home Scott’s eyes and skin had turned yellow. The jaundice continued to get worse and he was admitted to the hospital at Intermountain Medical Center on Tuesday, April 18. A CT scan that evening revealed a mass in his pancreas.

On Wednesday, April 19 he had an ERCP scope procedure to put a stent in to help with the jaundice and to get shavings from the mass for testing. On Thursday, April 20 Scott was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer (pancreatic adenocarcinoma). He was released from the hospital on Saturday, April 22 and has been at home recovering.

Since the diagnosis we have learned that his cancer is stage 1 - the cancer is in the pancreas only and is resectable (can be removed with surgery). We met with the oncology team at Utah Cancer Specialists at Intermountain Medical Center and got a second opinion from Huntsman Cancer Institute at the University of Utah. We are extremely grateful that there are two excellent cancer centers within 15 miles of home.

Maggie and Nikki will be providing updates on Scott’s pancreatic cancer journey on this page. Please feel free to continue to call and text us. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting!

Newest Update

Journal entry by Margaret Moore

Scott’s Chemo regimen has changed since our last update.  Scott started chemo yesterday April 1st.  He will go once every two weeks for three months.  This could change depending on how he reacts to chemo.  So far he is doing great, just a little nausea. We continue to go one day at a time and enjoy each day!

We were able to spend a couple of weeks with Nikki, Ryan and Rhett in Colorado which really lifted our spirits!  We hated to leave Rhett but will see them again soon. Thanks everyone for the prayers and well wishes.  Scott continues with his humor and positive attitude.  We have great team of Doctors and lots of hope for the future!
