Scott’s Story

Site created on May 25, 2019

From Scott and Amy.

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it as a central location to keep family and friends updated, and want to make it clear we are not in need of or asking for any donations. We appreciate your prayers, support and words of hope and encouragement.

May 8, 2019, we found out Scott has a brain tumor. He went to the doctor because he was losing hearing in his left ear and the doctor ordered an MRI. Doctors were looking for an acoustic neuroma tumor, but found a large meningioma tumor above his left ear and behind the temple. We have spent the last few weeks in shock and panic mode searching for the right doctor to remove the tumor. After seeing three doctors, we scheduled surgery for Friday, May 31.  The upside is that these tumors are usually benign and our surgeon believes the tumor can be removed successfully.

Over the past year, Scott has had problems with randomly not being able to finish his thoughts while speaking. Over the last few months he has lost hearing in his left ear and more recently has had ringing in that ear. We are shocked to also find out the tumor appeared on a scan done at the hospital in 2011 when Scott had viral meningitis. Because the tumor is large and growing, we agreed with the surgeon that it is best to remove it as soon as possible.

Amy will do her best to update this site to keep friends and family in the loop on Scott's surgery/recovery.

Journal entry by Amy Dean

From Scott...So it has been a long time since my last entry. I am healing. Some things that were easy are now difficult and very frustrating but it will all be OK in time. This will be my last post on the caring site for me. I thank you all for your positive thoughts and prayers, they have worked!

However, I have to tell you that we have a bigger challenge than what I have gone through and I ask that your positive thoughts and prayers shift to my beautiful and amazing wife Amy who was diagnosed on October 2nd with Breast Cancer. I opened a Caring Bridge page for her and I hope I can be half as good to and for her as she has been to me. As you would expect Amy is seeing doctors and getting tests and she is marching forward towards a cure. She is scheduled for her first surgery on November 13th at University of Washington with Cancer Care Alliance Breast Surgeons. We will add more on her site.

Thank you all,

Scott
