Journal entry by Jennifer Bizon

Exactly 7 months ago today  I took Sawyer to Shriner’s because he “injured” his leg.  Most of the time I still can’t believe this has happened. Is happening.

Thursday I took work off to take Sawyer for a neurology appointment and post chemo labs.  Due to some residual tremors in his left arm (from the methotrexate toxicity) we will be scheduling a repeat brain mri and making an appointment with OT. His post chemo labs showed he had almost no platelets- so we had to stay several hours longer in order for him to get a  transfusion.  After two big allergic reactions to platelets- they finally got it right with the pre meds this time-and he had no issue.

Friday was the first of 7 furlough days to come in my job.  Because of that- I was able to take Sawyer to his appointment with his prosthetist.  They are still monitoring his weight and measurements for stable numbers before they can start the process of casting a mold to create his first temporary leg.  He believes Sawyer will be up on a leg before school starts.  Patience has always been difficult for Sawyer- this experience has certainly tested this over and over for him.  He cannot wait to get a leg.

These recent appointments remind me that we have come far, but still have so much ahead.  God and all of your prayers have carried us so far.

Ahead there is so much uncertainty with my job if you know anything about our school district and budget issues.  I know God led me there to get through these times and he will lead me in the next parts.   I carry the insurance - so it’s a little nerve wracking to know that things could change soon.  We are so grateful for all of the prayers and support.  We are forever grateful.  ❤️❤️❤️
