Newest Update

Journal entry by Kaitlyn Cornell

(from Kaitlyn)
Hey friends + family--thanks for continuing to journey with the Tysvers. You may have noticed things have been a bit quiet here, and the sentiment that "no news is good news" couldn't be truer, and for that we are grateful.

Sara and I were in a conversation with friends the other day one of them said something to the effect of "Sara--what's the update with you? I feel bad that I don't really even know that's going on with you and cancer/treatment etc!?" To which Sara responded, "I know--I haven't really had much to say, and I think I've just wanted to sit in the "normalcy" that has come again".  In the 'no-news', Sara has handled radiation like a champ with super-minimal side effects, she's rocking the cutest curly mohawk as her hair grows back in, and overall is feeling better than ever. So with that--we say thank you for those who have continued to ask, and pray over Sara and Tyler and family in this journey.

The reality is that there hasn't been much to report, and we are so grateful for that. Sara has been undergoing radiation treatments (33 total) every day for the past several weeks and tomorrow (my heart just skipped a beat and my eyes welled...) she finishes her last radiation treatment, and RINGS THAT BELL to declare that she is cancer-free! I repeat---CANCER FREE!!!!!!!!!

She'll continue to have check ups with oncology and monitoring her levels in the months to come, but we feel like this is the end of milestones for her.

I know that it is Sara's (and Tyler's) heart to try to continually express their deep gratitude for the many ways their village has come around them, and knowing Sara--some day it will be the best therapy for her to sit down and write about her journey--but for now, she's enjoying a little bit of life not thinking about cancer every day.

But tomorrow--we celebrate. Because beating cancer is stinking worth celebrating. We're talking shout-from-the-rooftops-extra-large-DQ-blizzard-hug-longer-cheer-louder-cry-bigger-dance-hard-alllllll-the-praise-hands celebrate.

There's a multitude of emotions in that statement--in the same breath we celebrate, I know Sara is holding her breath that it might be too good to be true. I know she's aching for people who have walked this same road with her but never got to celebrate this day. Man--there's a lot to unpack here--and like I said, I know at some point, Sara will.

But for tomorrow, we party.  Will you celebrate with us? Maybe you wear something pink, or something #SaraStrong, or maybe you make it a point to hug your kids a little longer, or make a call to someone who might need a word of encouragement, but will you celebrate with us tomorrow and let us know how you're doing it! One more blitz of #SaraStrong.

Thank you for being our people. They (we) simply couldn't have done it without you--and we were never meant to.

"I delight greatly in the Lord;
    my soul rejoices in my God."
Isaiah 61:10
