Tribute donations vs. personal fundraising
A donation to CaringBridge is a tax deductible donation used to power our mission, while a personal fundraising donation is a direct donation to an individual or family for financial support.
Tribute Donations:
As a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, CaringBridge is donor-funded. Nearly 90% of funding is provided by generous donors who have used the service in some way. Tribute donations made in honor of a loved one are tax deductible and go directly to CaringBridge to ensure that our service is available free of charge for all families, without the use of advertising.
CaringBridge operates a global social network for over 3 million people every month. Donations are used to power site improvements, maintain a safe and secure platform, and fairly compensate our team members. We manage our costs carefully and have a lean team to ensure maximum impact for every dollar we spend.
Personal Fundraising:
As a 501(c)3, CaringBrige is not authorized to redirect donated funds to individuals or their families. For that reason we have partnered with GoFundMe as a resource for personal fundraising. Any gifts made through GoFundMe go directly to the beneficiary of the fundraiser and are not tax-deductible.
There are other personal online fundraising services like Fundly, FundRazr, PayPal, and many more. You can link your personal fundraising site to your CaringBridge site in the Support Links section in your Ways to Help page.
