Journal entry by Sarah Koch —
Hello Everyone--
Sorry I haven't written an update in a while. I started school a few weeks ago with 28 3rd graders and I have been BUSY!
I recently got the official news: I won't have to do chemo! The chance of my cancer returning is low, especially if I do hormone therapy, which I'll start in a few weeks. I'll be on a drug called Tamoxifen which blocks estrogen and progesterone from connecting to the cancer cells, telling them to grow and divide. Since my cancer was estrogen and progesterone positive, I need to be on this hormone therapy for a while.
Another exciting update, my eggs are officially frozen. They did the retrieval the other day and got 8 mature eggs. I was giving myself injections multiple times a day for a few weeks and it goes without saying, I am SO happy all of that is done!
My mom started a GoFundMe for me a few weeks ago which has been amazing. We were able to raise enough money to cover the cost of egg freezing. All of this has been pretty stressful, but not having to worry about coming up with the money to cover this procedure has been a true blessing. Words can't express how grateful I am!
The final step is changing out my expanders for implants this November. It's an outpatient surgery, so it should be pretty quick and easy.
The worst is behind us! I am so grateful for every one of you. Thank you for your endless support and love. It has made all the difference.
Love,
Sarah
P.S. Do your breast checks and remind everyone you know!
